Mark your calendars for February 6th
Monroe Superstore's next blood drive!
The American Red Cross will be here from 9:30 am until 2:30 pm, you can sign up by emailing me, Amanda Shingleton .
The 56 day cut off for this drive is December 12- So if you haven't donated since then, you are eligible to give!
At the bottom of this page is a chance for previous Donors to register in Club Give. All you have to do is pledge to give a set amount of blood, and when you complete your pledge the Red Cross sends you a little gift. I pledged to give 3 units of blood, and when I do, I will receive a free burrito at Chipotle! There are other cool gifts like a Subway gift card, tote bag, and even a chance to donate money back to the Red Cross. Hurry though; they will stop accepting registrations on March 31!
Everyone knows that donating blood can save many lives, but?
Did you know?
*A single trauma victim can receive up to 100 units of blood at one time.*
*An average of 40,000 units of blood is needed in the U.S. for surgery every day!*
*Blood cannot be manufactured; the only way to collect it is through human donation.*
Reminders
1. Get a good night's sleep.
2. Drink an extra 16 oz. of water and fluids before the donation.
3. Eat a healthy meal before your donation. Avoid fatty foods, such as hamburgers, fries or ice cream before donating. Tests for infections done on all donated blood can be affected by fats that appear in your blood for several hours after eating fatty foods.
4. Remember to bring your donor card, driver's license or two other forms of ID.
5. Maintain a healthy iron level in your diet by eating iron rich foods, such as spinach, lean meats, poultry, fish, beans, iron-fortified cereals, eggs, whole grains, enriched breads, potatoes, dried fruits, and molasses.
Personal Benefits
· You receive a free medical exam. A health care worker checks your pulse, blood pressure and vital statistics.
· Donating blood on a regular basis has been shown to lower the risk of certain cancers.
· It's like a personal oil change ? by replenishing your blood supply, you allow your body to perform better. When you donate your old red blood cells, your body replenishes itself with new red blood cells. These new red blood cells are more efficient at carrying oxygen throughout the body, meaning you perform better.
· The knowledge that you are saving lives.
If you feel woozy after giving blood, you're no wimp. About 150,000 people faint or come close to fainting each year. It's a physiological phenomenon you can counteract by drinking 16 ounces of water about a half hour before giving blood. The water slows heart rate and improves blood flow, especially to the brain.
As a blood donor, you've probably heard that every time you give, you're helping to save up to three lives. Just think of the difference you're making. Now imagine the difference you could make by donating again and again through the American Red Cross.
Club Give is a way to add more life to your blood donation routine and a way we can thank you for your generosity. You can help ensure a safe and adequate blood supply for hospital patients each time you come to donate blood. All it takes from you is a simple pledge to increase or maintain your blood donation frequency, and to recommit to helping to save lives.
We'll set your pledge level based on your donation history with the Red Cross. So keep up your pace and meet or exceed your pledge. Remember: you may be eligible to donate whole blood up to six times a year, or double red cells up to three. Join the Club. Then do the math. You'll see it adds up to a huge difference.
